EUA survey: Learning and teaching in European higher education
This survey is available in English, French and Russian. You can change the language by using the drop down menu on the top right part of this page.
Welcome to the
EUA TRENDS 2018 survey
, which aims to map
developments in learning and teaching in
European higher education institutions
The results of the survey will feed into EUA’s TRENDS report, to be submitted the
2018 Bologna Ministerial Conference in Paris, France
. They will also be shared with the team that prepares the next Bologna Implementation report, and hence complement the data from national ministries. Thus, your participation in this survey will contribute to widening the debate on the future of learning and teaching in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
In addition, as for the previous TRENDS reports, results will also be disseminated widely, and feed into the policy debate, and follow-up projects. So far TRENDS has been the only report which has consistently presented comparative data on developments at European higher education institutions, and it has done so since 1999. Previous TRENDS reports can be found
We are also convinced that answering the questions could be interesting and useful for your institution, apart from being of enormous value to European higher education, and of help in our policy work. We are aware, however, that this exercise may prove to be difficult, particularly at large and diverse institutions. We would nevertheless encourage you to answer all the questions to the best of your knowledge, and, where necessary, to share the questionnaire with colleagues. There should be only
one response per institution
, for which a senior institutional representative should take responsibility.
If, in your country, responsibility for higher education is devolved from national to regional level (e.g. Belgium, Germany, Spain, UK), please answer for your region whenever the question refers to ‘national’ or ‘country’.
All data received from the questionnaire will be published in aggregate form only. Individual answers will remain anonymous, and cannot be traced back to your institution. However, we will mention your institution as a contributor to this study. If you do not wish to be mentioned, it is possible to opt out at the end of the survey.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at
Please complete and submit the questionnaire by
12 May 2017
Structure of the questionnaire
The questionnaire is divided into seven sections:
The institution and its context
Learning and teaching (L&T) policies and developments
Study programmes and L&T practices
Responding to society
Profiles, careers and regulations of teaching staff
End of questionnaire
Important information for filling the survey
for a PDF version of the questionnaire. This PDF version may contain more questions that the online version. This is because a number of questions are linked to follow-up questions. When filling in the online questionnaire, you will only be presented with those questions that are relevant for you, based on your last answer. The PDF version, however, contains all questions.
Some terms throughout the questionnaire may need further explanation. The online version provides definitions or explanations where required. Such terms are highlighted in
bold and blue
. You can view the definition by hovering your cursor/mouse over the term. The PDF version also contains a glossary of terms.
When working from the same computer and browser, it is possible to
leave the survey and return
before submitting your final answers. Responses are saved automatically, once you turn to the next questionnaire page. You can exit the survey at any time, and re-enter it through the same link. Should you wish to revise an answer on a previous page, click on the PREVIOUS button to return.
Clicking on the
button on the last page of the survey submits your answers as final to the system administrator. Please make sure that your answers are final before doing so. Your answers to the survey will be considered as finalised and complete only after you click on this button.
